Milling Mechanisms

Modern Mills typically have three major types of mechanisms:

  1. Stone Milling (Vertical/Horizontal): Two stones made of corundum or granite grind grain. One stone remains stationary while the other rotates. The gap adjustment allows for varying fineness.
  2. Roller Milling: Pairs of corrugated or smooth steel rollers shear and crack grains. One roller moves slower and the other moves faster. Multiple stages (breaks and reductions) are used to separate bran from the endosperm.
